The Australian Government has initiated a project that would turn some of its cities to be Solar Cities by the end of the year 2013.  The leader of this consortium is locally based in Townsville, thereby helping improve greatly the Solar Power in Townsville Other cities are  Adelaide, Alice Springs, Blacktown, Central Victoria, Coburg, Perth and Townsville.

Townsville is located in north Queensland, Australia and has more or less 200,000 residents as of present.  The pioneering company of Australia’s 2007 – 2013 projects whose main office is in Townsville has vowed to finish installations of smart meters and solar photovoltaic systems to be placed in selected homes and public buildings.  There is however a relatively small budget for the solar development of this area primarily because of its somewhat small population.  The priority of course of the funding goes to the place where there are more people that would benefit.  But on the other hand, what makes Townsville a viable candidate in turning to be a solar city is that it is the Largest Urban Center North of the Sunshine Coast.  It follows therefore that an urban center utilizes a reasonably large amount of electricity.  The demands of a highly urban city depend a lot in electric generations.  This plays a vital role in selecting this area to go solar before 2013 ends.  Not only that pollutions emitted by this urban place will be lessened but the electric costs will positively go down once it turns into a fully functional solar locale.

Now, we shall look at rest of the cities included in the project.  Adelaide has approximately 1.8 to 1.9 million residents and is considered to be the most populous southern Australian State which makes it a feasible target in going solar.  Alice Springs like Adelaide is a very good candidate in turning solar because it is occupies the second largest city in Northern Australia.  On the other hand, Blacktown is the largest town in New South Wales; it also is a commercial district that houses a large shopping center and many small shops and restaurants.  Though small, Coburg is suburb which is only 8km away from Melbourne’s Central Business District.  Being so near the central district makes it a fine choice to turn solar because this is a feasible study to examine whether concentrating these projects in small areas are healthier instead of putting them in larger cities.  Lastly, Perth is not a difficult choice to turn into a solar city because first, it is the Largest and Capital city of Western Australia and second it is the fourth most populous city in mainland Australia.
